Web 2.0 tools?

What is Web 2.0?

According to Whatis.com, "Web 2.0 (or Web 2) is the popular term for advanced Internet technology and applications including blogs, wikis, RSS and social bookmarking. Tim O'Reilly is generally credited with inventing the term, following a conference dealing with next-generation Web concepts and issues held by O'Reilly Media and MediaLive International in 2004. One of the most significant differences between Web 2.0 and the traditional World Wide Web (retroactively referred to as Web 1.0) is greater collaboration among Internet users and other users, content providers, and enterprises."

I believe most have heard about Blogger, Google Apps, Facebook and Twitter. In fact, we can get a more complete directory here. But what exactly can these tools do for the teacher?

This is an excellent video on the use of Google Apps, Moodle, Wiki and Blogs. It gives a glimpse of what Web 2.0 tools can do to help teachers facilitate learning.

Welcome!

Hi everyone,
Welcome to RV ICT Committee Blog. This blog was created to showcase different technologies and to spark off discussions in how they can be used to support various pedagogy. In my opinion, it is the pedagogy that should drive the technology and not the other way round.

Teachers these days have to deal with different challenges and the committee hopes that this blog can be a source of inspiration for you to generate new ideas for your teaching. Please feel free to share with us your ideas and thoughts on the different technologies introduced.

Let our journey begin... :)
Perhaps, we should start by examining WHY we need to rethink about our teaching in this technology-driven age. Here's a video clip for you to think about...
